52 Photos, Week 1

I'm pretty vain, so if you're me and I am, this idea is a no brainer. Does this sound like a resolution? It's not a resolution. Just a fun activity. I swear.

Last February I did a Photo-A-Day challenge from Fat Mum Slim. It was really fun and I did a moderate job of keeping up. Brett's cousin Jessica tweeted about trying a photo challenge in 2013 and I decided to get on board as well! She suggested this article for good ideas.

While I almost always have my phone in hand, a 365 project seemed a little ambitious to tackle the first time around, so I'm opting for a once a week fashion. 52 photos in 2013. There are weekly photo challenges that offer up assignments (like Project 52) but I wanted to pick my own subject matter, hoping that will increase my chances of participating until the end!

Anyway, I'm going to do a self portrait every Tuesday at 5:30 pm. Why? Because it seemed arbitrary enough to work. This is a bit frightening in a way because I like to keep up the pretense of being an attractive person and it seems to me that I won't always look very good every Tuesday, least of all by 5:30 pm. In fact, it's just occurred to me that for the next few weeks I'll probably have just showered after visiting my personal trainer earlier in the afternoon and will almost certainly not have make up on or have done my hair. Ah well. I'll take the good with the bad. Maybe it will be a project of self discovery and acceptance.

Here's my first photo, taken on New Years Day in the car. We were driving home from celebrating in Des Moines. I'm happy with my new haircut and wearing a scarf my brother-in-law gave me for Christmas.

  1. This is a GREAT idea. I already know I won't be making time for the photo a day challenge probably ever again but this is a lot more practical.

    1. Did you do a photo a day challenge in 2012? I think self portraits are going to be fun. You should do it! As a stylish guy yourself, I feel like it would be worth documenting your haircuts alone.

  2. Logging self portraits is a fun thing, I think. I haven't done it, but there are some crazy cool collections. Check out this one of 13 years of daily photos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=iPPzXlMdi7o
